Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Individual states promulgate laws to comply with the federal law — The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. This act is codified at 42 USC 653-653A. Employers need to only comply with state laws.
North Carolina General Statute §110-129.2 requires employers to report newly hired employees who within 20 calendar days from the hiring date. If an employer transmits new hire reports magnetically or electronically by two monthly transmissions, the reports should be not less than 12 or more than 16 days apart.
