Individual states promulgate laws to comply with the federal law — The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. This act is codified at 42 USC 653-653A. Employers need to only comply with state laws.
Iowa Code §252G.3 requires employers to report employee hire or rehire within 15 days of the hire or rehire date. If reporting by magnetic tape or electronically, report through transmissions which are not less than 12, nor more than 16 days apart.
