Individual states promulgate laws to comply with the federal law, The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. This act is codified at 42 USC 653-653A. Employers need to only comply with state laws.
The Alabama New-Hire Act of 1997 (97-228) requires employers to furnish new hire information within seven days from the date of hire (or reemployment). Employers electing to file magnetically or electronically may transmit twice monthly, not less than 12 days or more than 16 days apart.
