The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Transportation Services Authority have adopted by reference the federal Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 107, 171 – 173, 177, 178, and 180, as well as Part 397 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as they existed on September 1, 1996. The adopted regulations apply to all interstate and intrastate carriers.
The Nevada State Police Fire Marshal is responsible regulating hazardous materials within the state. The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) enforces regulations regarding the transportation of hazardous materials.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (DEP) administers the hazardous waste management program within Nevada.
