The Mississippi Public Service Commission (PSC) adopted the rules and regulations of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) relative to the transportation of hazardous materials as set forth within Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 100-180, and any amendments thereto. The Mississippi PSC has additionally adopted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including Part 397, as amended from time to time. The Mississippi Public Service Commission (PSC) regulates the transportation of hazardous materials within the state through the adoption and enforcement of applicable federal hazardous materials and motor carrier safety regulations.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) administers the majority of the hazardous waste management program within Mississippi. The Mississippi Hazardous Waste Management Program regulates hazardous waste generation, transportation, storage, treatment, and disposal.
