Indiana has adopted the federal Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 107 Subparts F and G, Parts 171 – 173, 177, 178, and 180, as well as Part 397 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Shippers and carriers engaged in interstate and intrastate commerce must comply with the regulations.
The Indiana State Police (ISP), Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, exercise regulatory control over the transportation of hazardous materials within the state.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Office of Land Quality (OLQ), is the lead agency in administering the Indiana hazardous waste management program.
