The Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) has adopted by reference portions of the federal Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), including Parts 107, 171-173, 177, 178, and 180, as well as Parts 390-399 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, as amended. These regulations apply to both interstate and intrastate transportation within Hawaii.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) regulates the transportation of hazardous materials within the state.

The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH), Solid and Hazardous Waste Branch, regulates the transportation of hazardous waste and administers Hawaii's hazardous waste management program.
