The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) has adopted by reference the federal Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 107, 171 – 173, 177, 178, and 180, as well as Parts 387 and 397 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. The adoption of these regulations went into effect on April 30, 2012.
The CSP regulates the transportation of hazardous material within the state. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) creates and maintains rules and regulations regarding hazardous waste within Colorado.
