State Info
Private carrier authority - Wyoming
Intrastate
Intrastate private carriers (transporting own commodities) follow the same procedures described in the for-hire carrier section except no insurance filing is required. Applications must be accompanied by a $50 application and filing fee. If both private and intrastate contract applications are filed at the same time, the $50 fee is required.
Private carriers operating vehicles which have a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or less are exempt from the Motor Carrier Act, and do not have to obtain authority as long as all units are under this weight.
However, if any units are over 26,000 pounds, the carrier must obtain authority as an intrastate private carrier.
This exemption does not affect any registration or fuel tax requirements which may apply.
Interstate
Wyoming is not a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA); however, interstate for-hire carriers based in this state are required to select a base state according to UCR guidelines and file UCR registration. UCR registration is required even if travel occurs only in non-UCR participating states.
Refer to Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA) for the current fee schedule.
