Intrastate
No statutory requirements for private carriers to obtain intrastate operating authority in Nevada.
Insurance: Intrastate private motor carriers are required to maintain a contract of insurance against liability for injury to persons and damage to property in the following minimum amounts (freight only):
- Vehicle or combination of 10,001 to 26,000 lb gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) – $300,000 CSL
- Vehicle or combination of 26,001 to 80,000 lb GVWR – $750,000 CSL
Carriers transporting hazardous commodities must maintain the limits as specified in 49 CFR §387.303.
Interstate
Nevada is not a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA); however, interstate for-hire carriers based in this state are required to select a base state according to UCR guidelines and file UCR registration. UCR registration is required even if travel occurs only in non-UCR participating states.
