Intrastate
Private carriers operating intrastate must submit a vehicle inventory for each vehicle over 59,999 lbs. qualified under KYU requirements (mileage tax). They must also maintain Kentucky Highway Use (KYU) license in good standing, if operating taxable units, and report and pay applicable taxes quarterly. No vehicle Tax ID is issued.
Insurance: No requirements unless hauling hazardous materials; coverage then is $1,000,000/ $1,000,000/$1,000,000 PL and PD.
Interstate
Kentucky is a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA). Online registration and fee payment is recommended and available to all carriers at the national UCRA website at www.ucr.in.gov.
