Summary of differences between federal and state regulations

Maryland protects the privacy of persons where they can reasonably be expected to fully or partially disrobe and have a reasonable expectation of privacy in an office, business, store, restaurant, hotel, etc. Visual surveillance may not be conducted in a private place, such as a tanning room, dressing room, bedroom, or restroom. Visual surveillance includes surveillance by:

Direct sight,
The use of mirror, or
The use of cameras.

Visual surveillance may be conducted, however, if it is to protect property or public safety or prevent crime.
