Pole and utility vehicles/trailers – Delaware

Piling and pole trailers and vehicles or combinations of vehicles engaged in the transportation of steel beams, pipes, angles, channels and other lengths of steel, or other metals, or other articles impossible of dismemberment, may not:

• Exceed 70 feet in length; or
• Extend more than 10 feet beyond the rear of the bed or body of the vehicle.

Lamps and flags

The rules applicable to lamps or flags on projecting loads do not apply to any vehicle or combination of vehicles carrying piling, poles, or mill logs. 

Permits

The permit allowing for movement of pole, piling, and mill stock:

• Is a multi-trip permit;
• Costing $30;
• Is valid for an individual tractor only;
• Is valid for 30 days; and
• May be used Monday through Sunday sunrise to sunset during the effective and expiration dates of the permit.

Key definitions

“Semitrailer” includes every vehicle of the trailer type so designed and used in conjunction with a motor vehicle that some part of its own weight and that of its own load rests upon or is carried by another vehicle, and piling and pole trailers are to be considered to fall within the meaning of this definition.
