Power units, trucks, semitrailers, trailers, buses, and school buses must undergo compulsory inspections by a designated Vehicle Safety Inspection Station and may be operated only if a valid inspection certificate has been issued.
Bus, power unit truck, and trailer certificates issued to vehicles meeting or exceeding the standards set out in the Vehicle Safety Inspection Manual, must be kept in the vehicle. In the case of a trailer they may be kept at the vehicle owner’s address, and all certificates must be made available for inspection on demand of a peace officer or government official. Where a certificate has been issued, a sticker (indicating the month in which the inspection expires) must be affixed to the bus, power unit or trailer by the mechanic performing the inspection. Power unit and bus certificates are valid for six months, or where designated by the director for annual inspection, one year. All certificates issued for school buses, trucks, trailers, and semitrailers are valid for a period not exceeding one year.
Inspection certificates issued for school buses must be kept in the school bus log book and are valid for one year.
Vehicles and trailers not meeting the minimum standards must be repaired and reinspected within 30 days.
