Pay transparency

There are no state-wide laws regarding pay transparency in Virginia.

Salary history

In 2019, then-Governor Ralph Northam announced the Employment Equity Initiative to promote fair and equitable pay at state agencies. As part of the initiative, salary history was eliminated from state job applications, and a new state compensation policy eliminated provisions that base starting pay and future salary adjustments on previous or existing salary.
