A licence applicant must undergo a medical examination for class 1, 2, 3, and 4 by a qualified physician and file with the Registrar a medical report completed in accordance with the Canadian Medical Association’s (CMA) medical and vision standards. Reports are to be filed at the time of application.
The Registrar will not issue a driver’s licence to a person who, in the Registrar’s opinion, is medically unfit to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with the most recent edition of the Medical Standards for Drivers, published by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA).
Periodic updating of a driver’s medical record for Class 1, 2, 3, and 4 was implemented in 2004.
