Transportation of Hazardous Materials
No permit is required to transport hazardous materials within the state.
Transportation of Hazardous Waste
To transport hazardous waste within or throughout Wisconsin the transporter must have a valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identification number and a hazardous waste transportation service license issued by the Wisconsin DNR.
The $400 fee for hazardous waste transportation licensing covers a licensing period from October 1 to September 30 of the following year. All applicants must renew this license annually by the date specified on the renewal form that is sent via email by the DNR.

Transportation within Menominee Indian Reservation
The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin requires motor carriers on tribal lands, transporting hazardous materials in quantities that require placards, to register with the Environmental Services Department. Registration is required every year between January 1 and January 31. The annual registration fee for hazardous materials transporter applicants is $37.50. The annual registration fee for hazardous waste transporter applicants is $200. The fee for a one-day trip permit is $20.
Container, tank, or unit inspections may be required. The container inspection fee is $35. The tank inspection fee is $45. The power unit inspection fee is $25. The Tribe will waive inspection fees when the carrier can demonstrate the container, tank, or power unit has successfully passed inspection in another jurisdiction within the last 12 months.
