No permit is required for the transportation of hazardous materials within the state.

Transportation of Hazardous Waste

All motor carriers that transport hazardous waste, used oil, or infectious waste on the roads and highways of Missouri must obtain a Hazardous Waste Transporter License through the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), Motor Carrier Services. Applications for a Hazardous Waste Transporter License may be submitted online through MoDOT Carrier Express.

To receive and maintain a Hazardous Waste Transporter License, proof of insurance is required. The license is valid for one year from the date of issuance, and to ensure timely renewal, renewal information should be submitted at least 60 days before the expiration date.

Any shipper that transports high-level radioactive waste, transuranic radioactive waste, highway route-controlled quantity shipments, spent nuclear fuel, or certain low-level radioactive waste through or within Missouri may be subject to additional fees, notification requirements, and oversight by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
