Transportation of Hazardous Materials

No permit is required to transport hazardous materials within the state.

Transportation of Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste transporters must comply with applicable federal and Alaska hazardous waste transportation requirements. Effective August 6, 2026, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) administers Alaska's authorized hazardous waste program under 18 AAC 62.

Asbestos

Packets are available containing instructions and application forms for authorization to conduct a one-time disposal of up to 250 cubic yards of material containing asbestos — both regulated and non-regulated. Authorizations will be issued under 18 AAC 60.200(d). Authorization fees are assessed in accordance with 18 AAC 60.700 Table E-3. Penalties for non-compliance with the authorization will be assessed in accordance with AS 46.03.760.
