Configuration Weights and Dimensions
No person may operate on or over a provincial highway, provincial road, or municipal highway a vehicle or combination of vehicles that exceeds the dimension or weight limits as provided in The Vehicle Weight and Dimension Regulations, 2010.
The weights and dimensions of specific configurations (truck-pony trailer, truck-full trailer, tractor-semitrailer, A-train, B-train, etc.) may be found in The Vehicle Weight and Dimension Regulations, 2010, Appendix A, available at www.publications.gov.sk.ca/freelaw/documents/English/Regulations/Regulations/H3-01R8.pdf. The appendix includes primary, secondary, and municipal highway weight and dimension limits, along with standard and winter weight season weight limits.
Lift Axles
No person may operate a vehicle equipped with a lift axle if the tires of the lift axle are in contact with the ground. This requirement does not apply if:
- The lift axle is on a vehicle other than a semitrailer and the person has a permit authorizing the vehicle’s use;
- The lift axle is on a semitrailer, was installed before November 1, 2010, and the control switch is located so that the driver is unable to raise and lower the axle; or
- The lift axle is on a semitrailer and was installed on or after November 1, 2010, and the lift axle meets the following:
- The lift axles can be raised only if the semitrailer is unladen;
- The lift axle system is designed so that on an unladen semitrailer the lift axle system can maintain an axle in the raised position once the axle is raised;
- The lift axle system is designed so that when the semitrailer is carrying a load all of the axles in the group are on the ground, none of the axles in the group can be raised by the lift axle, and the weight on the axle group is evenly distributed;
- The lift axle system is designed so that whether the axles are raised or lowered, the trailer wheelbase and effective overhang meet the applicable requirements; and
- The person has a permit authorizing the use of the lift axle system.
