Effective December 23, 1994, the written exam is no longer required. The sections pertaining to the written exam (391.35 and 391.37) were removed from the regulations.
The removal of the written exam requirement does not change the motor carrier’s obligation under 390.3(e)(2) to instruct drivers and employees about the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Motor carriers may continue to administer the written exam as part of their training program.
