An LQG or SQG cannot move wastes between satellite accumulation areas. Once a waste leaves a satellite accumulation area, the waste must be moved to the central accumulation area within three consecutive days.
On May 30, 2017, EPA added 40 CFR 262.15 to the hazardous waste regulations. The new section specifically addresses satellite accumulation areas (SAAs).
The satellite accumulation provisions allow Large quantity generators LQGs and small quantity generators SQGs to accumulate up to 55 gallons of hazardous waste (or up to 1 quart of acute hazardous waste) in containers at or near a point of generation where wastes initially accumulate and which is under the control of the operator of the process generating the waste.
