States and cities are adopting smoke-free laws across America. However, these laws are meant to protect employees and the public from secondhand smoke. They are not meant to prevent fire. OSHA has not made any exceptions for smoke-free workplaces with regard to posting “No Smoking” signs where required. Therefore, OSHA regulations that specifically call for “No Smoking” signs must still be met. These regulations generally relate to fire and chemical hazards.
