The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is the most widely used green building program in the world. The USGBC partners with the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) to give buildings LEED certification.
The certifications are divided into these categories:
- Commercial,
- Neighborhood Development,
- Residential,
- Volume Supplement, and
- Cities and Communities.
The USGBC provides guides to obtaining LEED certification for each category of building project. For commercial and residential certifications:
- Register your project, and
- Complete and submit the certification application along with the fee.
The GBCI will review the application.
