Federal: 29 CFR 1910.95 and Appendices A through I
A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- All audiometric tests must include testing at 8,000 Hz. Appendix E, Acoustic Calibration of Audiometers, is amended to incorporate this test frequency. Test frequencies above 8,000 Hz may be omitted from audiometer calibration checks.
- Audiometer calibration must be checked acoustically at least annually in accordance with Appendix E. Test frequencies below 500 Hz and above 8,000 Hz may be omitted from this check. Deviations of 15 decibels or more require an “exhaustive” calibration.
- When an audiometric test room is located in a mobile test van, background sound pressure level measurements must be taken at each testing location.
- Employers must post a notice of the availability of the Occupational Noise Exposure standard in the workplace, instead of posting a copy of the standard itself.
- Agriculture and construction, in addition to oil and gas well drilling and servicing operations, are exempt from paragraphs 29 CFR 1910.95(c) through (n)
