Hazardous waste cleanup programs - Virginia
Virginia (EPA Region 3) is fully authorized to implement its own Hazardous Waste Cleanup Program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) oversees the investigation and cleanup of hazardous waste releases through its Corrective Action Program. To enforce the state’s hazardous waste regulations, DEQ uses a range of tools including permitting, facility lead agreements, remedy consent orders, and other regulatory mechanisms as needed.
