Hazardous waste cleanup programs - Rhode Island
Rhode Island (EPA Region 1) is fully authorized to implement its own Hazardous Waste Cleanup Program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) Office of Land Revitalization and Sustainable Materials Management administers the state program. The agency adopts and enforces hazardous waste rules, issues permits, conducts inspections, and oversees corrective actions/cleanups in the state. Rhode Island’s regulations for hazardous waste management cover, among other things:
- Generation, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste;
- Spill response and remediation standards; and
- Permitting and compliance of facilities handling hazardous waste.
