Hazardous waste cleanup programs - Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania (EPA Region 3) isn’t authorized to implement its own Hazardous Waste Cleanup Program. EPA Region 3 is the primary authority for cleanup programs in Pennsylvania. The commonwealth’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) does have authority over Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), which allows the agency, through its Division of Hazardous Waste Management, to:
- Regulate hazardous waste generation, transportation, and treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs)
- Issue hazardous waste transporter licenses;
- Provide technical support and compliance monitoring for hazardous waste generators and facilities;
- Manage the RCRA grant; and
- Coordinate with EPA on corrective actions.
