Hazardous waste cleanup programs - New Mexico
New Mexico (EPA Region 6) is fully authorized to implement its own Hazardous Waste Cleanup Program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) enforces the New Mexico Hazardous Waste Act, which mirrors federal RCRA provisions and includes permitting, enforcement, and cleanup responsibilities. The Hazardous Waste Bureau of NMED provides regulatory oversight through permitting; provides guidance to waste generators and treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs); conducts inspections; and responds to hazardous waste spills and releases.
