Hazardous waste cleanup programs - Mississippi
Mississippi (EPA Region 4) isn’t fully authorized to implement its own Hazardous Waste Cleanup Program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The state’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is authorized to implement and enforce the base RCRA program, which includes activities such as permitting treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs); regulating hazardous waste generators and transporters; and enforcing compliance with hazardous waste regulations. However, EPA retains direct responsibility for corrective actions/cleanup programs in Mississippi.
