Scope
HazCom is based on two safety and health principles: miners have a right to know about the chemical hazards where they work, and mine production operators and independent contractors have a responsibility to know about the chemical hazards at their mines.
The intent of HazCom is to ensure that each mine has a program emphasizing chemical hazards. MSHA requires operators of mines initially to instruct each miner with information about the:
- Physical and health hazards of chemicals in the miner’s work area.
- Protective measures a miner can take against these hazards.
- Contents of the mine’s HazCom program.
Regulatory citations
- 30 CFR Part 47 — Hazard Communication (HazCom)
