All non-IFTA carriers are required to obtain a permanent IFTA license or a fuel use tax single trip permit to travel into Ohio. Permits are normally obtained in the name of the owner but, if the owner has a permanent lease with a carrier, the owner may allow the carrier to get the permit in the carrier’s name.
Carriers under suspension will not be issued a single trip fuel use permit.
Fuel-use single trip permits are issued through the Department of Taxation during regular business hours or 24 hours/day through certain permitting services such as J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc., at (800) 231-5266.
Fuel use single trip permit: $12, valid for 24 hours (a maximum of four permits totaling 96 consecutive hours may be issued for any vehicle at one time at $12 per each 24 hours)
