Non-IFTA vehicles operating into Kentucky that meet the definition of qualified vehicle under the IFTA may operate under a fuel trip permit. The permit may be obtained from the Division of Motor Carriers.
Fuel permits are not required for charter buses.
Any carrier with a vehicle that is over 59,999 pounds traveling in Kentucky is subject to the KYU tax (weight-distance tax). In lieu of the KYU tax, Kentucky offers a 10-day vehicle specific KYU permit.
Fees
Fuel trip permit, $40 for 10-day permit
KYU temporary permit, $40 for 10-day permit
