Intrastate
For-hire motor carriers and for-hire (and private) tow and wrecker companies are required to register for intrastate authority and pay a one-time filing fee of $50, along with an annual $8 per unit fee, before conducting intrastate motor carrier operations in Tennessee. Commercial vehicles of any weight are subject to authority requirements.
The authority credential issued by Tennessee must be carried in the vehicle.
Insurance: Intrastate: $750,000 CSL for carriers of nonhazardous property over 10,000 pounds GVWR. $300,000 CSL for intrastate carriers under 10,000 pounds GVWR. Cargo insurance of $5,000/10,000 and a Form H required. A Form E and MCS 90 or MCS 90B Endorsement of Insurance must be filed by all for-hire intrastate carriers. A form G (Surety Bond) must be accompanied by a form MCS 82 or MCS 82B.
Interstate
Tennessee is a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA). Online registration and fee payment is recommended and available to all carriers at the national UCRA website at www.ucr.in.gov.
