Household goods carriers must apply to the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) and obtain a certificate authorizing such operations. Intrastate carriers must pay a filing fee to the NCUC of $250 for Class 1 motor carriers, $100 for Class 2 motor carriers, and $25 for Class 3 motor carriers.
Insurance: Intrastate: Less than 26,000 lb GVW, $100,000/300,000/50,000; More than 26,000 lb GVW, $750,000 CSL. Cargo insurance, $35,000/50,000. Form E and H required.
North Carolina is a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA). Online registration and fee payment is recommended and available to all carriers at the national UCRA website at www.ucr.in.gov.
