Intrastate
Intrastate household goods, passenger, and garbage/waste carriers must obtain from the Public Service Commission a certificate of public convenience and necessity, and a registration receipt. Carriers must pay an application filing fee of $500 and a $5 per vehicle fee.
Common and contract carriers of the above commodities must register their insurance, and purchase a vehicle identifier, at a fee of $5 per vehicle. The identifiers are renewable annually.
Insurance: Operating intrastate must have $750,000 CSL (GVW rating of 10,000 lb or less, $300,000 CSL) and $10,000 cargo insurance; Form MC-1649A and MC 2491 or Form E and H (cargo).
Interstate
Montana is a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA). Online registration and fee payment is recommended and available to all carriers at the national UCRA website at www.ucr.in.gov.
