Intrastate
Intrastate household goods and hazardous waste carriers, and involuntary towing companies operating as for-hire carriers must obtain a Certificate of Compliance. Applications are filed with a fee of $100. One identification device (decal) is required for the calendar year for each vehicle operated under the certificate; the fee for the decal is $40. Household goods carriers must also file tariffs at a fee of $100.
Insurance: Intrastate: Cargo insurance is required for common carriers. Limits are as follows: $10,000 household goods; $5,000 towing companies.
Interstate
Massachusetts is a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA). Online registration and fee payment is recommended and available to all carriers at the national UCRA website at ucr.gov.
