South Carolina incorporates by reference the federal regulations for flammable and combustible liquids; however, the state adds further requirements. A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- In the standard on spray finishing using flammable and combustible materials, the definition of a spraying area (section 1910.107(a)(2)) has been revised to include the interior of spray booths, the interior of exhaust ducts, and any area in the direct path of spraying operations.
- In the standard on spray finishing using flammable and combustible materials, the requirements for electrical and other sources of ignition—wiring type approved (section 1910.107(c)(6)) has been revised to include both equipment and wiring type approved. And, detailed requirements for electrical wiring and equipment located adjacent to a spraying area have been added.
- The South Carolina Code of Regulations contains a revision to the federal OSHA standard on dip tanks containing flammable or combustible liquids (1910.108). South Carolina has added a revision to the standard's section on electrical and other sources of ignition (1910.108(e)). South Carolina's revision is found in the South Carolina Code of Regulations at Chapter 71, Subarticle 6, Paragraph E.
