Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Employers are not required by federal law to give former employees their final paycheck immediately. Some states, however, may require immediate payment or payment within a specific time period.
Alabama does not have specific regulations for final paycheck payment on termination. (Code of Alabama §37-8-270).
The Alabama Department of Labor is also required to investigate and attempt equitably to adjust controversies in respect to wage claims or alleged wage claims. (Code of Alabama §25-3-4).
