State Info
Minnesota has adopted many federal OSHA standards and incorporates them by reference. The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (MNOSHA) has a few additional requirements or minor variations for eyewash stations and safety showers including:
- Plumbed eyewashes/showers should be flushed weekly for at least three minutes to ensure proper operation. The three-minute flush has been suggested to reduce contamination by Acanthamoeba (parasites).
- An eyewash or safety shower is required where there is exposure to formaldehyde solutions with concentration > 0.1%, an eyewash is required. Concentration >1%.
- An eyewash or safety shower is required when it is reasonably foreseeable that an employee’s eyes may contact > 0.1% methylene chloride, an eyewash is required.
