A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- A refuge area must be protected from the effects of fire. It can be a floor of a building having at least two spaces separated by smoke-resistant partitions in a building where each floor has automatic sprinkler protection.
- Counterweights dangerously near passageways must be guarded or secured.
- Every walk-in refrigerator, cooler, or freezer must have a door latch that is able to be opened from the inside at any time without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.
