Hawaii’s idling limits apply to all motor vehicles.
Exceptions: There are exceptions for:
- Up to three minutes during the buildup of pressure at the startup and cooling down of the engine;
- Adjustment or repair of the engine;
- Operation of ready-mix trucks, cranes, hoists, and certain bulk carriers; and
- Other auxiliary equipment built onto the vehicle or equipment that require power take-off from the engine.
| Maximum idle time | No idling is allowed. An engine may not be in operation while a motor vehicle is stationary at a loading zone, parking or servicing area, route terminal, or other off street area. |
