Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Polygraph protection
Louisiana does not have state-level polygraph protection requirements. Private-sector employees are provided protection under federal requirements at 29 CFR Part 801.
Polygraph examiners
Polygraph examiners need to be licensed by the Louisiana Polygraph Board. The qualifications for obtaining a license include that the person must be a high school graduate, have completed a polygraph course of at least 270 hours, have completed a 6-month internship, have never been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, and pass an examination administered by the state.
Only those instruments that record permanently and simultaneously cardiovascular, respiratory and galvanic skin response patterns can be used. Instruments can additionally record other physiological changes.
