Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Federal contractors who receive qualifying contracts on or after September 8, 2009, must participate in the E-Verify Program, using it to verify new employees and existing employees assigned to a federal contract (qualifying federal contractors may choose to verify the entire workforce).
Colorado law prohibits state agencies and local governments from entering into contracts with employers who knowingly employ illegal immigrants. State law also requires contractors who enter into or renew contracts for services with a state agency or political subdivision to verify the employment eligibility of all employees using either E-Verify or the Colorado Department of Labor Employment Program.
