Question: During an annual inspection, what is a technician supposed to check for when it comes to “speed-restricted tires”?
Answer: The inspector is required to check for the presence of speed-restricted tires that have a speed restriction of 55 mph or less. (Item 10(c) in Appendix A, 393.75)
If such tires are found, the inspector is to verify that the carrier operating the vehicle is aware of them. If the carrier is not aware of the speed-restricted tires and does not operate the vehicle accordingly, the tires would have to be removed from the vehicle to pass the inspection.
