The state of Washington follows the federal Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs).
- PFOA: 4 parts per trillion (ppt)
- PFOS: 4 ppt
Washington has state-specific interim requirements for state action levels (SALs).
- PFOA: 10 ppt
- PFOS: 15 ppt
If SALs are exceeded, the system must take follow-up actions, including notifying its customers. Note that the State Board of Health began the process to adopt the federal rules and maintain the state’s current SALs in the interim.
