South Carolina has adopted 390.21 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
Section 390.21 applies to a commercial motor vehicle and its driver, operating in intrastate commerce with a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight, or gross combination weight rating equal to or exceeding 26,001 pounds, or a commercial motor vehicle and its driver, transporting hazardous materials required to be placarded.
The US DOT number must have the suffix “SC” if the carrier is an intrastate only carrier.
Example: USDOT 123456 SC
Additional Requirements | A carrier regulated by the Public Service Commission must display its name (or trade name), principal place of office, and PSC I.D. number on both sides of the vehicle in letters and figures at least three inches high. Example: ABCD Trucking Company Nichols, South Carolina SCPSC #1234 |
