OSHA has no specific requirement for exit route maps, and, therefore, does not require these maps to be posted. However, in non-mandatory guidelines, OSHA says their use should be included in the emergency action plan. Evacuation maps may be helpful to occupants in an evacuation, and employers may want to consider them. Exit route maps are also not called for in NFPA’s Life Safety Code. Employers may want to contact their local fire marshal for further guidance, as local fire codes also apply.
