Does an interstate vehicle weighing 26,000 pounds (or less) that is not registered under IRP) receive reciprocity when operating in other IRP jurisdictions?

Operators of interstate vehicles that have two axles and that are 26,000 pounds and lower are not required to register under the International Registration Plan (IRP) and obtain apportioned plates; however, such vehicles may be apportioned if the registrant chooses. When not apportioned under the IRP, these vehicles are subject to the registration laws in each state where travel occurs. Several states require trip permits, or apportioned registration, for these types of vehicles. Check with the state(s) of operation prior to operating into or within a state to ensure compliance.

In Canada, the Canadian Agreement on Vehicle Registration (CAVR) covers vehicles 11,794 kilograms (26,000 pounds) or less.
