FAQ
Does a company need to give a DOT pre-employment drug test to an employee who has worked for the company for several years but is transferring to a CDL driving position?
Yes. The term “pre-employment” used for this DOT test type may be a bit misleading. The test applies to more than just new hires who will be on the company’s payroll. Anyone who will be utilized in a CDL capacity (which makes the job a safety-sensitive position) is subject to pre-employment testing. Examples include leased drivers and existing drivers transferring into or returning to a safety-sensitive position.
